NEW OGOPOGO BOOK SEQUEL ANNOUNCED
About the Book: The long-awaited sequel to Don Levers’ classic children’s book about the Okanagan Lake Creature is being announced by Okanagan Publishing House. The new title, Ogopogo: And the Mysterious Stranger, follows in the footsteps of the original, which tells the story of Ogopogo saving busloads of children when the Okanagan Lake bridge broke apart during a sudden summer storm. Over the past 35 years since the first’s release, it has sold over 30,000 copies.
In this new book, the grateful children of the Okanagan Valley come together to throw a celebration worthy of Ogopogo’s heroism. However, a mysterious stranger lurks with the potential to set their plans awry! The tale combines fiction and fantasy, with a modern take on medieval lore. The author explains, “when I wrote the original Ogopogo book, I had the idea of doing a series that would connect all the mythical lake creatures throughout the world.”
The book’s pages are a large 8.5x11in, capturing the reader’s attention and drawing them into the tale. It is illustrated by local artist Angelina Danielle, who brings spunk and colour to this exciting story. “I’m hoping my art brings children into the world of this amazing sequel,” the artist shared, “my wish is that both adults and their kids fall in love with the Ogopogo and the Okanagan.”
Important Note: The book Ogopogo: And the Mysterious Stranger is inspired by the author Don Levers’ own encounter with the Okanagan Lake Creature. This imaginative interpretation is not meant to take away from the Nx̌aʔx̌ʔitkʷ (pronounced N-ha-ha-eet-kw) as the true origins of the Okanagan Lake Creature. A portion of the proceeds from this book goes toward the Kwu x̌ast Program, run by the Okanagan Nation Alliance. Kwu x̌ast is a prevention program that creates a space for Indigenous children to safely express and explore their creativity through various art forms and settings (Learn more here).
